Description
Why I Should Join
The news program is a great way to learn about how to stream a News Program. Students work with to create a script, load into the Teleprompter and produce a seamless broadcast. Some students will be working behind the scenes to control cameras, angles, and contrast, while others will be on screen demonstrating their Public Speaking skills!
Student Quote
“The news club has introduced me to many new people and has has helped me get out of my comfort zone. I wouldn’t have thought that I would be on camera, but the news club created a comfortable environment. I like that it gave everyone a chance to do what they wanted to do and helped us be comfortable with it. There’s nothing that I disliked about the club.” - Nicole Garced
“What was most enjoyable to me about the news club was that I was able to learn new skills and cooperate with my peers. It gives people the opportunity and an idea of what really occurs behind the scenes of a news program. There is nothing negative I am able to say about the news program. Overall, it was a fun learning experience.” - April Gorman
Criteria for Membership
We will be looking for telecasters, cameramen, someone to edit the broadcast, someone to run the teleprompter, and a few other individuals to assist in set design and layout. Although this seems very exciting, we are looking for students who are responsible and have a clean disciplinary record as decided by a committee of teachers and administrators. Interested students must also be prepared to arrive early in the morning and stay after school weekly.
Involvement Expectation
Students are expected to meet weekly during scheduled recordings, in addition to any other special events that require news coverage throughout the school. Students are scheduled in teams that rotate monthly so many students will be asked to attend for one month at a time and then rotate with others as needed. Students will have to attend regular monthly meetings to help improve design and communication with the rest of the team.
