Traffic Advisory Summerhill Road 10-7-25 to 10-10-25
SPD Traffic Alert – Summerhill Road Closure 10/07 - 10/10
Beginning on Tuesday October 07, 2025 at 7:00 a.m., Conrail Railroad Corporation will begin a necessary project to repair and replace the rail line and crossing on Summerhill Road near the Municipal Building. The work is expected to continue through Friday, October 10th at 7:00 a.m.
What to Expect:
o Full Closure: All thru lanes on Summerhill Road will be closed during this time for 24 hours per day. Traffic will be detoured around the work zone until the project is completed. While the timeline may be shortened if work finishes early, please plan for alternate routes until Friday morning.
o Southbound Detour: Traffic normally traveling South on Summerhill Road will be detoured via Old Stage Road either East or Westbound. There will be another detour at Vaughn Avenue. School Traffic will be able to continue on and access the High School and Memorial School this way. The hard closure occurs right after the municipal building before the railroad tracks.
o Northbound Detour: Traffic normally traveling North on Summerhill Road from Main street will not be allowed to turn onto Summerhill from Main Street as a detour will be in place. The detour will send you down to Main Street in East Brunswick and up to Old Stage Road, or down to Snowhill Street to Brunswick Avenue to Old Stage Road.
o Local Access: Local traffic will still be able to access schools, homes, side streets, and businesses on Summerhill Road up to the work area. The closure will span the full width of the roadway, so no vehicles will be able to pass directly through the rail crossing site.
We recognize that Summerhill Road is a heavily traveled roadway, with thousands of vehicles passing through each day. Unfortunately, this may cause delays, particularly during peak travel times and school hours. We kindly ask that you adjust your daily schedules, allow extra travel time and remain patient throughout this necessary project.
Safety and Enforcement:
Your safety is our top priority. Officers will be present to monitor traffic flow, enforce safe driving practices, and address any aggressive or unsafe driving behaviors. We will also be monitoring local streets where drivers may attempt to bypass detours.
We understand this closure will create challenges and inconvenience, and we truly appreciate the cooperation and patience of our community. Together, we can get through this short disruption safely while important infrastructure work is completed.
