Description

The National Junior Honors Society (NJHS) is a national organization dedicated to recognizing outstanding students in the seventh and eighth grades. Students selected for membership display scholarship, citizenship, leadership, service, and character. Our members are active, involved students dedicated to bettering their community and the world around them. The NJHS volunteers at many local events throughout the school year as well as fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Ronald McDonald House, Friends of Kids with Cancer, and many other causes.

Student Quote

“NJHS has fundraisers that help benefit our community, other foundations, as well as ourselves. It allows us to communicate with our peers and work together on projects.” “The NJHS helps raise money for charities, teaches leadership, and lets kids gain more responsibility by helping decide what fundraisers to do.”

Criteria for Membership

Students are eligible to apply for membership in NJHS in seventh and eighth grade by invitation if they qualify academically. In addition to academic excellence, selection for membership is based on exhibited leadership, willing to use talents and skills for the improvement of society. Selection for membership is by a faculty committee and is based on their assessments of the candidates’ scholarship, leadership, character, service, and citizenship.

Any 7th or 8th grade student meeting the minimum academic criteria will receive a letter inviting them to submit his or her information for consideration at the beginning of each school year. All information packets will be reviewed by a faculty committee; students who qualify will be offered membership. Selection for membership is by a faculty committee and is based on their assessments of the candidates’ scholarship, leadership, character, service, and citizenship. Students must maintain academic success and continue to demonstrate behaviors suited to membership in the NJHS.

Involvement Expectation

NJHS members are expected to attend monthly meetings and NJHS board members will attend weekly meetings. Each member must be involved in one of our programs including fundraising, community service, collection programs, and advertising. In addition, students must maintain a 3.5 GPA and continue to display the traits of character and leadership which earned them membership.
